Tashkent State Medical University

Government combines major medical institutions to create a new university

The Tashkent State Medical University will be established by combining the Tashkent Medical Academy, the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and the Tashkent State Dental Institute. This new university will commence operations in the 2025/2026 academic year. All students currently enrolled in the three institutions will continue their education at the new university and will be awarded its diploma upon graduation.

The establishment of the Tashkent State Medical University stems from a presidential decree focused on enhancing the medical personnel training system in Uzbekistan.

According to the decree:

  • The Urgench branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy will be converted into an independent Urgench State Medical Institute.

  • The multi-specialty clinic of the Tashkent Medical Academy, along with the clinics of the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute and the Tashkent State Dental Institute, will be integrated into the clinics of Tashkent State Medical University;

  • The Termiz and Chirchiq branches of the Tashkent Medical Academy will be transformed into branches of the new university;

  • The academic lyceums associated with the three initial institutions will be designated as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd academic lyceums of Tashkent State Medical University.

The new university will prioritize aligning its medical education programs with international standards by implementing competency-based curricula in medical training.

Furthermore, the university is set to become a premier higher education institution for the training, retraining, and professional development of highly skilled specialists and researchers in the medical sector.

Student admissions to the new university will begin in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Starting from that year, all existing students from the three previous institutions will pursue their education at Tashkent State Medical University. Graduating students will be awarded degrees from the new university following the established procedures.

Beginning in the same academic year, distinct master's degree groups will be gradually established, offering instruction in foreign languages.

In Tashkent, specialized medical centers and healthcare facilities will be designated as clinical practice sites for the university's students.

The Tashkent State Medical University Development Fund will also be part of the university's structure and will be funded through sponsorships and donations.
